My Office

A friend asked to see a picture of my office, so as long as I snapped one this morning, thought I'd share it with the rest of the kinky voyeurs who have asked...

Here is an article on my home office, bit more complex, but without the view!

I would like to see a BIGGER pic.

After all, a big part of GTD is your desk set-up.

Cool, but can you link it to a larger version. Us geeks would like to see what gear you use.

Posted by: Steve Rubel at August 9, 2004 08:09 AM

I like to use mine for lugging data files, music and listening to audio books like "getting things done". I know all of us GTD folks would be interested to know how you incorporate your ipod into your life! :)

David, I'd also like to know

...What brand of stapler do you use?

...What weight of paper is in your printer?

...What radio station do you listen to?

...What cereal do you eat? Hot? Cold?

...Etc.

Sorry about the tease. It just amuses me to think about all the "What does David use/do/like?" emails you must get each week!

I'd like to see the same image at higher resolution too.

Asking what you do with your ipod is not akin to asking whether you like hot or cold cereal.

I find that the ipod is a useful tool to take most of my project support files with me between office, home and traveling. Through the firewire or USB 2 transfer, it is easy to use the ipod as a portable hard drive.

So not withstanding the comment below, I would like to know if others, including David, might see a place for the ipod as a GTD tool.

Thanks.

thanks for your reply Eric Mack.

I agree that the USB memory sticks are useful for data transfer if you only have a small amount of data.

The only reason I like the ipod is that it holds gigabites of info, and it has firewire (or USB2) transfer.

I write manuscripts and give presentations, so I work with large files, photoshop, powerpoint, word. I have about 30 project support folders with from 100 to 500 mb in each.

Therefore at the end of the day, if I have 5 gb of folders I want to take home, it takes only about 7 minutes to transfer everything, and I'm out the door. If I was using a regular USB cable, it would take a really really long time.

Plus most of those USB sticks only store about half a gb or les

So is a bigger pic on the way? We're all dying to see what gen iPod David uses.

Ah, a rare glimpse into the Bat Cave.... but it looks so NORMAL! I guess I was hoping for a surprise of some kind when you pulled back the veil.....

I've been using my 20GB iPod to back up my important files and photos since I got it. Easy as could be, and it saved my bacon recently when my entire email database was corrupted. I'm upgrading to 40GB so I can back up all of my data.

BTW, it's superb for recording classes and listening to them again. Don't forget Audible.com, either!

And that gorgeous curved desk! Tell us more...

Posted by: Kristin Hernberg at August 16, 2004 11:15 AM

I use the iPod (40 gig version) for 900 of my tunes (which I can plug into my MINI when I go a-motoring). Also for recording some of my own seminar and interview material, for future use in an audio newsletter in the works. And, this is not really my desk. I made one up to look "normal" - if I showed you the real one I'd have to kill you.

Where's that famous fancy labeler I read so much about?!

Posted by: BobR at August 19, 2004 05:40 AM

If that's not your desk, what's the point of presenting it as it is? Kind of disappointing.

It is generally considered that you should not work with a window either directly in front of or behind your computer screen. I've got a wall behind my screen; the mountains are out the window to my right...

It's probably extra wear on your eyes to have to look at a screen with that much light behind it...

Not many books either! Do you keep a separate library?

Can you tell us the specific model of Brother labeler that you use? The variety of labelers is quite overwhelming. You seem to hint that your's has stand alone keyboarding capability.
