Information, not action...

Interesting thing - that our Outlook Add-In is being now site-licensed to a very strategically-focused division at Microsoft. Interesting in the same way that when Mitch Kapor contacted me to get in touch - he'd read my book, and what was interesting to him was that he hadn't caught the "next action" thing, with all his stuff over all those years. Actually, it's fascinating to me that all the gazillions of $$$ have been spent in the software world, just finding slicker ways to input, rearrange, and access data - not how to manage action. That's still to come...

Yeah, and I understand it's a heat-wave out there now - 18 degrees F @ 8pm! (BTW, great dinner at Hardware Grill...) Just spent part of the day with the Deputy Ministers of the Alberta Government. Had a great time at the Government House, which they're getting ready for The Queen's visit! (100th anniversary coming up for the Province of Alberta, for you cultural idiots that don't have that on your calendars!)

I'm hoping they will take some of the basic principles out of it and finally integrate it into Outlook. :o) This will not take away the idea of people using your plugin (because the method is not for everyone).

I have been waiting for a long time that some basics done in the plugin (as I can see from the website) will be available in Outlook; it has always bugged me that you can't properly snooze mails.

So looking forward to people using it - and starting bugging other people as MS ;o)

Nicely said - I've spent much time tweaking and tuning and hunting and evaluating, that I don't acutally GTD. Funny, but tuning the system is my biggest procrastination tactic :-)

Back to "built in applications" on my T3, starting Monday.

Thanks again

To quote Dave in this thread: "Actually, it's fascinating to me that all the gazillions of $$$ have been spent in the software world, just finding slicker ways to input, rearrange, and access data - not how to manage action. That's still to come... "

Absolutely right - it is still to come! In fact, I talked to Dave by email a long time ago about implementing more advanced software to automate the underlying processes in the GTD methodology, and it's been on my mind ever since (but don't worry Dave, I still use the system to "get thinking off my mind!"). I just upgraded to Outlook and have installed the Add-in, and it's fantastic - a definite move in the right direction, but it still requires "active management".

It would be an interesting exercise to get a group of experienced GTD users together to flesh out requirements for the next generation of software that would support the GTD methodology. If this happens, count me in, I'd be on a plane in no time.

Regards,

Peter
