Geeking with Eric

What fun... taking off from my wall-to-wall world for a day, drove up to Pine Mountain Club to just hang out with my long-time propellor head buddy and technologist - Eric Mack. We're going to be blogging, podcasting, skype-ing, and miscellaneous snorting around all the productivity bleeding edges, and running down the rabbit trails. Sometimes that's the priority...!

The two of you guys and new computers? Trouble in the making...

I first heard about GTD a few days ago at a seminar given by Leslie Boyer. I'm just out of school and looking to migrate from my college day planner to something else. Since I don't want to carry a cell phone, iPod, and a PDA (and I'm not yet impressed with the smartphones available -- where's the WiFi connectivity), I'm going to try to implement GTD with an Outlook/iPod combination. Heard of any success/failure stories? A quick Google search turned up the iPod Agent program ({ Link } which is capable of synchronizing Outlook's contacts, calendars, tasks (and email if necessary) to your iPod. Am I in unchartered waters?

Is that a (tantalizingly unreadable) software based mind map in the background? Looks great on the big screen!

Yes, Dave. There are two projection screens in the digital sandbox. This way, my guests can display their laptop on the left, while I display mine to the right. David and I both use MindManager (and related tools) for visual mapping of our thoughts. For a really cool view of how David uses MindManager in his backyard, check out : { http://www.ericmackonline.com/ica/blogs/emonline.nsf/dx/backyard-computing-connected-to-the-great-indoors ">Link }

Thanks Eric

I don’t get to see enough demos – I’m very comfortable getting thoughts down in Microsoft word or Palm, therefore my hand written mind maps can be cluttered and uninspiring by comparison. That MindManager display is very appealing.

The quality of David’s outdoor projections is excellent: I would have thought that the sunlight levels would rule them out. My last venture in outdoor computing was with Ye Olde PowerBook 170, but being in Ireland I was wearing two jackets and definitely not shorts! As for visibility, I think the screen was the brightest thing in the garden!

I am intrigued by the painting in the background--is that a Van Allsburg print or an original or some other? I know I've seen it before...
