New labeler R&D

As many of you know, I've been very attached to our Brother PT-15 labeler, which I've used for more than ten years - never found anything faster or slicker. Unfortunately they've discontinued it (of course - the refill tape is the cheapest. What could I have been thinking!?) Am testing the new Brother PT-18R, which so far seems pretty cool. USB connectable for quick printing with my typeface-du-jour, rechargeable in a stand for mobile labeling... (not sure how long that charge really lasts yet). Any of you had any experience yet with the PT-18R?

I'll tell ya, David, my favorite is still the Brother PT-1900. Sits anywhere on my desk, runs for a LONG time on regular batteries, refills are readily available in lots of colors, sizes, etc., doesn't require fancy software, etc.

Lots of options, including mirror printing, about 7 font sizes and various font styles.

Very, very simple, makes making a new folder very quick.

Oh, and a cool thing is that it automatically cuts off the tape and just the right point once it has printed. Don't even have to press down a little lever anymore (as on earlier models I've owned).

I had installation problems with a Brother. However, I have been using a Dymo 330 turbo for 4 months and love it. David, great advice on getting one, as it makes organization alot easier....

Just a short comment.

On the basis of this Blog entry I decided to buy the Brother PTouch PT-18R that David mentioned in this entry. My older PTouch 2200 died and I was looking for a replacement.

I'm very happy with the PT-18R. As it slips into a recharging cradle it takes up less desk space. It lives in a corner in the cradle and comes out into the workspace only when I need it. That creates less clutter with the unit, wires, etc.

The machine itself is very nice. Especially the ability to preview the finished label before printing so one can spot errors. It is also very quiet in its operation (even when cutting the label off) which I like a lot. I can use it to make the label for the client's CD while the client is still in the trance chair and the client can't hear the labeler at all (I'm a hypnotist).

I have used an original Brother PT labeler for years and recently upgraded to the PT-2600. It uses all of the usual size Brother label cartridges, but the best feature is the ability to use cartridges of Avery File Folder (and mailing) labels. It's an excellent tool to support creating a file quickly. Powered by AA batteries or the AC adapter.
