Blog spam - Chapter 2...
Thanks to Robert and Chirill on our team, we've implemented our own version of CAPTCHA for this blog this morning, so you'll see a code to type when you add a comment. I've turned off the "Approve Comments" function, so they should post right away. If you do notice any spam blogging in other comments here, let me know. Thanks!

Hi, there! Hadn't realized you started blogging! I am experimenting with blogs too..mostly journaling for now..if you are curious, here is the site: http://journals.aol.com/gotomaria/TheLittleThings/
I'm thinking of starting another blog on Elegance...you've got that down pat! I am adding more elegance into my life (I figure clutter is not elegant so there you go...)
I think blogging is great and I'll have to add you to my growing blog list. I just signed up for your November session in Seattle. I'm so excited. I had taken your seminar a few years back and had fallen off the wagon so to speak. The house is a mess with paper all over! Work is better though and I have to thank you for that. I also bought your CD set and it is great to listen to in the car while I drive back and forth to and from work. Can't wait for November...:)

Don't think my previous note took...it didn't post right away so here goes again. Not so long this time...I am blogging too! I added it the URL. In any case, elegance is on the top of my list. I've signed up for your session in November in Seattle....can't wait..:)

Wow! That's nice. I don't suppose you would share how you implemented this by any chance. ;^)

Maria, et al
Comments don't actually post the instant they're filed - the site updates itself every five minutes, so it might take a few before yours shows up. - David

Adrian,
If you mean, how did I implement the spam blocking using CAPTCHA, I hired people who know what they're doing about this and asked them to make it happen. You could check with my CTO, Robert Peake, if you want - robert@davidco.com - David

David,
Indeed blog spam is a big problem. I have an elaborate system to avoid all those bots and folks that post unrelated stuff... captchas are definitely a good thing.

Hello David,
It's a little late to be commenting on this, but you might consider hosting your blog at TextDrive.
My wife's on a WordPress blog, and was having problems similar to yours: pills, porn and casinos regularly flooded her comments. I had installed a few plugins; they helped, but didn't eliminate the problem.
Since switching to TxD in February, the problem has stopped -- so much so, that I've removed the anti-spam plugins as they're no longer needed.
They claim "furious server-side" blocking of spam attempts, both email and comment spam. The creators of WordPress and TextPattern are both principals of the company; perhaps this explains their success. Whatever the reason, it works.
