The Power of Someday/Maybe
A Someday/Maybe does not necessarily mean a Someday/Never list. I often see people hesitant to put things on that list, fearing it will never come around again.
I use that list to incubate all sorts of things, some even just for a few months, if I'm not committed to it yet or just can't do it right now. Even fantastic ideas that would be great to do, I'll put on my Someday/Maybe list. I've had things on there for years that just keep rolling along (go to Machu Pichu, learn Italian) and some things are just there until I can get to them (work on a GTD guide for Notes users, get voice recognition software.)
My only commitment to the Someday/Maybe list is reviewing it. That's all. But parking things on that list relieves the stress that I need to DO it now. Reviewing that list it in my weekly review (which takes all of about 20 seconds) gives me a chance to check in on it to ask, "now?"

I agree. I am taking vacation next week, and my someday/maybe list just grow after my WR all those things that I am not going to work in the next 2 weeks go there, is like take heavy weight from our shoulders... but as you said... need to be like everything part of the system to work, or it will make us fail

I love the list, too. I use it often to drop things in, knowing that I'll come back to it regularly during my review. One of the great aspects of the GTD system, for sure!
I break my Someday/maybe list into three part: personal, professional, and one major, long-term project.

Great Post. Question: Is the Someday/Maybe list an appropriate place to put next actions or projects that may have gotten "stale" but a person may get to in the future? What seemed like a good idea at one time might have aged to the point of no longer being a urgent.

Hi Arnold, Yes, I use my Someday/Maybe list sometimes for things that have gotten stale. Some of the things on my Someday/Maybe list were originally on Action lists, but just weren't moving because other actions are taking priority or I just lost interest, but I don't want to lose the idea. Thanks, Kelly
