Perspective + Control

I took a little mini-vacation this weekend to Colorado. I love the mountains and air quality compared to Los Angeles. I also love what a little break like that can do for me to unhook from the daily grind. I was appreciating my own relationship to GTD, being a student of this going on 15 years now. I appreciate how the Weekly Review gives me perspective and control to feel good about what's not getting done when I take breaks like this. There's nothing worse than trying to go on vacation when the unknown loose ends are nipping at my ankles. The Weekly Review allows me to get some perspective on where I've been and where I'm going and also gain control over my runway/actions level so I know what won't get done while I unhook.

Here I am on a hike with the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park in the background. This was about 9,000 feet, so I took the opportunity to rest my lungs as much as take photos!

I agree with you... i just came back from one week holiday... i never experinced this but this was great holiday for me and relaxing, its simple actions and everone knows but rare when we do it in real life.

(1.) if you have "MUST DO NOW STUFF", im talking about very very urgent work that has to be done now and no way to be dalyed, finish it now and dont get involved into more work or promises.

(2.) if you dont have a current TO-DO list write one before you leave or as Kelly said "what's not getting done" list.

(3.) Tell everyone connected with your work that you are leaving for holiday in most cases they will understand, in my case i really had no problem at all. (if its not long vacation i believe no need for this step).

(4.) go awayyyy and unhook yourself from all business stress, you will have no worries as you have your TO-DO list ready when you go back, you dont have to worry yourself over forgetting things, you have already wrote everything down before you leave.

- i have had and experinced one of the best holidays i have done just doing these simple steps.
