David Allen gives the keys to GTD on YouTube

A few months back, I had the pleasure of accompanying David Allen to Google where he presented the keys to GTD to a standing-room only crowd. It was a fantastic talk and it's now available on YouTube:

The Matrix of Self-Management is great stuff and will be new to many of new.

Enjoy!

Kelly,

It would be helpful if you could also make this available for download/podcast - that is - assuming that David's allowed to do that ...

Thanks.

If you have real player on your computer, you can right click on any YouTube video and download a copy to your own computer. Real Player is free.

This is an excellent video clip but if you're new to David Allen, and want something shorter than the 45 minutes it takes, look at another YouTube clip. We finish our article: http://www.the-happy-manager.com/david-allen-time-management.html with this shorter clip. Well worth the 7 minutes and 12 seconds!

Is it possible to get part 2 somewhere?
Thanks

Hi Danie,

As I recall, David continues talking for a few more minutes after this ends and then he went into Q&A with Google employees. I don't think that second part will be released--just the main part of DA's talk in the video posted here.

Have been trying to find the best computer-based GTD system. LOVE gmail with "filters". All my email gets AUTOMATICALLY routed to label-folders, making "inbox processing" AUTOMATIC for all patterned emails!!! But THE MAN seems to be offering a "next step" from that. I'll never remove auto-filtering-labeling, but adding in some specialized GTD stuff, might be cool. Man, this guy is a REALLY Clear, lucid, awesome speaker, which is totally understandable given his expertise in organization! This is "standing only" room? That's what I wanted ALL throughout college! I wanted to stand up in every class! I realized I don't usually learn much from stand up presentations. They're too slow. Books and references are ESSENTIAL for employing new life enhancing techniques and strategies. GTD IS strategy AND technique. Man, I LOVE macros. I just designed one that automatically downloads and backs up (with good names) every Google notebook archive on a regular basis. SWEET!

Hi John--

Thanks for your enthusiastic account of GTD and Google tools. I wanted to comment on filtering from the GTD perspective, which I think you caught from David's video.

One of the most important aspects of GTD is deciding your next action. While filters can be helpful for sorting, they do not do your deciding for you. A filter will never be as smart as you. If you're using filters to simply spread your inbox out into more areas, then filtering can certainly work. But from a GTD system perspective, there is still the critical step of going to those places and deciding your outcome and next action.

We weren't all standing during David's presentation. In this case I meant all of the seats were taken, and there was only room to stand. But I do think standing is a great strategy for staying engaged!

Thanks for commenting.
