And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages
William Shakespeare, The Seven Ages of Man

Well the many parts sound like Areas of Focus, but what about the seven ages?

I like to have a few goals but really just a single vision. However, I also want to think about the future after the current vision horizon.

We receive information and ideas about the future all the time. Marriage, children, career, retirement. It would be nice to have a place in the system to accumulate this information and also to think through these future chapters of a life. How do I imagine retired life and will I have the resources to make it happen? Better start planning now: purpose, vision, ...

So, perhaps I should write a vision document for each of the seven ages of myself.

I do this too (for ages now). Whenever I need more focus and the culprit in unclarity on the 40k-level, I take out the journal and update my vision. I just write what comes to mind on that horizon in whatever format suits me. Kind of a braindump. When it's finished I look back at prior 'visions' I had, then I update my 30k-10k lists which is a pretty straightforward process at that point.

It's the over-the-horizon aspect that I'm particularly interested in.
