Working at Doit and Nirvana, both of which are specific to GTD as opposed to just general task/list apps. I only need Android and PC capability, no need for mac products or a tablet, so my requirements are not as extensive as a lot of people on this forum.
I wish David Allen Co would take the plunge and develop its own app / software, though I know that's a very different business from your primary focus.

Finally...a straightforward iPhone task list that syncs with my Exchange server. I've been using it for a few days now and love it! I use Outlook at work.

Hey -
Keep many of my day-to-day lists in Google Tasks since I use google mail as my primary email and its the easiest way to track and links with Google calendar. I use a google doc spreadsheet for projects and other higher levels lists as well as my lists for individual people.
For me it works great for work and a bit less well for home but am working on that.

Have been trying out IQTELL for a couple of months. It's web based and really configurable. So it can be as complex or as simple as you need it to be. I'm really enjoying it.

I need the easiest format for a GTD app as I'm forgetful, can't focus, easily distracted and new to the system. What is suggested for a beginner?

I clicked on Things above
But I also use that in combination with Pocket Informant on my iPhone
I use Pocket Informant for the calendar and contacts and Things for my next actions.

Paper is often a good choice. If you want advice on digital tools, you need to say what platforms you are using now, if any.

I use Evernote as my main GTD system now and, once I got to the 4th or 5th configuration, I've that it is perfect for on the go as well.

it seems to work well enough. It's a great place to keep reference material... but a little cumbersome to compose a list on my phone. much easy on the desktop. Its web based and one time their server went "tits up" for two days... and i was unable to access it for the entire time it was out. Definitely a downside. It's free and now that they fixed the "online only" part it's my go to application.
I also use Colornote (for android) as a quick way to jot down a few things. Its only a phone app.

I am a big fan of The Hit List, both on the Mac side and very soon, on the iPhone side, as I attempt to migrate from BlackBerry to iPhone 5, when my device arrives.
THL is really slick, does everything I need, has a very intuitive dashboard and entry system, and IMHO, runs circles around the other confusing interfaces of tools like DevonThink, Things and similar apps.
Give it a try, you won't be disappointed:

I actually found The Hit List to be non-intuitive, and prefer both Things and OmniFocus to it. It's one of the programs I stopped testing after entering only a few test items. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

It is not available as a native app on any platform, but their mobile site works very well from my Android phone. I like to use my PC to add and organize tasks, because of the larger screen and actual keyboard. If perchance I am totally offline, the mobile version will still allow me to see my tasks, and if I make any changes, they will sync up when I am next online.
GQueues can integrate with Google Calendar, but I choose not to do that.
Why I like most about it is that it has a very clean look, so I can focus on my information instead of the pretty screen.

Best way to develop the habits and thinking of GTD is to forget the apps for a while and use paper. Since paper is so intuitive, you'll think more about your stuff and how to process it than trying to learn a new app.
Good luck! Stick with it, do your weekly reviews, and you'll reap the rewards of GTD!

I like it because it syncs between mobile and web app nicely. When I tried Asan, it didn't do that.

I'm a long time user of MyLifeOrganized due to its flexibility, ease of configuration to align with GTD, and that it has a Windows client which doesn't require web access. Also use Evernote for reference storage. And, I've just begun playing with IQtell, which I'm liking very much!

I'm using Paperless on ios. All my project plans live in Evernote or in a Mindmap but my task lists and other general lists are in Paperless.

I use Action Lists on the iPhone, which syncs to Toodledo as the cloud storage. This client follows the GTD methodology, makes it very quick and easy to enter tasks into an inbox, and nicely displays lists of next actions by context or project for on-the-go decisions.
With the ToodleDo website, I can easily do my weekly review on a larger screen.

I voted OmniFocus since I use that on my iPad for personal GTD.
For work, I have been issued a BlackBerry (Torch) which is sync'ed with Outlook 2007 through my employer's Microsoft Exchange Server.

I was using Doit.Im and ActionComplete.
I paid for 6 months of Doit.im and 1 year of ActionComplete.
Today ActionComplete fits my needs better (better Context handling).

I've used Touchdown but I wanted to keep my Calendar's in sync. The Google calendar & Toggl record of tasks completed are integrated into Outlook's overlay mode.

I just signed up with Astrid this week, and as a result of doing that was inspired to reconsider using GTD principles after some time away from it. I previously was using RTM, before that Toodledo. So far I think I like Astrid better, with one caveat: I'm an iPhone user and, though there is a fairly nice iPhone/iPad app, I didn't know before I signed up that the primary mobile platform the developers are focused on at this time is Android. (I signed up at the recommendation of and Android user.) That means that new features appear to be available to Android users first, with some lag for iOS users.
I've spent a good deal of time this morning setting up folders and lists that accommodate my current understanding of GTD, and assigning tasks accordingly. Time will tell if I can make it work efficiently.
Having gone through this process makes me wonder if I could do the same with RTM--I never tried. I might go back and take another look at it from that perspective.

I'm back to Google Tasks with the Android GTasks app. Google tasks may lack a little functionality, and have a really weak web interface, but the simplicity is more important to me than a couple of optional features. I used RTM for a year, but adding tasks was such a pain, I found myself not doing it.

I'm omnifocus through and through, though I'm now using workflowy as an outliner. The integration from workflowy isn't as good as it could (will?) be, but it's a great and flexible tool.

Hi Kenny,
Basically I have notebooks for the different lists in GTD. On my blog I describe in details how it works for me: http://www.fokkekooistra.nl/blog/tag/evernote.

My digital paper, checklists, project support and someday/maybe ideas are in Evernote, and my calendar is Google/Gcal, so I love zendone's tight integration with both.
Until this week it was in beta, and therefore free to use via web and iPhone. No Android app yet. Paid plans took effect this week, but there is still a free trial available.
All zendone does it GTD, so no elaborate setup is required - it is quick and easy to use.
But all it does is classic GTD, which can be a bit limiting ;)

I use MS OneNote for my lists and all my digital references, notes, project stuff, etc. Since my office has a scan and email feature on the copier, I commonly scan hard copies of things and put them in OneNote as well. OneNote usually comes with MS Office Suite. I think it's fairly unknown from what I gather. Sad, it's a pretty good tool for GTD...at least for me.:D

Hi all
I'm really stuck on this question. So stuck that it is impacting on my GTD. Can anyone advise on Remember the Milk versus IOS reminders? That's my current dilemma.
What I like about RTM is that I can enter things on the iPhone or through their mobile website on my desktop which I find a little faster.
I'm attracted to the fact that Reminders is a native app and the easy interaction between it and other iPhone apps like the calendar etc. I'm about a third of the way through the webinar.
Also, I think I'm about to upgrade to an iPhone 5, or at least a 4S bbecause I want to be able to use Syrie. Does anyone know how it woud o on a third party app such as RTM?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

RTM and Reminders are pretty different. It isn't clear to me what your desktop platform is, and that might make a difference. I like the iOS RTM, but their web interface is not for me. On balance, I like Toodledo better than RTM but it is nicer to have a native app on the desktop. You can use Siri with RTM if you pay for a subscription. I'd get a 5, because the 5S or 6 is due "soon."

IQTELL. I've only been using it for a couple of weeks, and so far it's working great. I haven't completely implemented GTD yet, but IQTELL seems like it will be a really good tool for it.
