Intentional Software & David Allen partnership!

Should we expect perfect GTD software implementation?

Nice short YouTube of me and Intentional CEO announcing our partnership http://bit.ly/Wl6iKj

By delivering a Meta application that fulfills upon these unsatisfied needs, we can offer a GTD Enthusiast more comprehensive support of their GTD workflow within software. (http://www.intentsoft.com/overview/gtd/)

This is exciting, but...

is it crazy heretical of me to say that I'm doubtful even a software implementation designed by David himself could fully capture GTD?

I dislike implementation tools as a general rule. You can teach GTD to twenty people and each one, based on his or her needs, will implement it in an entirely different way, and in ways that are 100% consistent with the overall thought process. I often find a single implementation tool causes people to focus their energy on understanding the tool rather than

collect
process
organize
review
do

which imo, should be at the center of anyone's implementation.

But I look forward to seeing what comes out of this partnership. I'm sure it will be great; but I'm pretty sure I won't be running out to switch my system to it right away.

I think you are right.

I feel the real tool is the information David presented in the book. How we use it, that will be customized in many ways as we each look at our needs. I'm looking forward to seeing the program but I don't hold out much hope that it will be the answer I am seeking. I think unless we create our own software, we will never get exactly what we want.

I totally agree. At the risk of a little gratuitous self-promotion, I just did a "Slice of GTD Life" with Kelly, and that's exactly what I gave as my "advice to newbies"... If more people focused on really internalising the thought process, they'd really be ahead of the game - but I understand that's not as sexy as playing with software and other implementation tools!! :)

Hopefully that will lead to some much needed GTD standardization :-)

As far as I understand it the idea is not to create new user software, but to provide a 'meta' platform on which others can build GTD software, but making sure that it is integrated via this platform. I think this coming from David Allen Company would give it some chance of success.

Very true - and I didn't mean to sound flippant. It will definitely be a great advance, given that it's coming from DAC. Quality and integrity will be paramount, I'm sure.
