A large majority of my e-mails are long and complicated. I can kind of guess whether I need to read them, but most of them take longer than 2 mintues to read, and only then will I know "what it means" (project, next action).
How do people handle this.

It depends on how much time you have. If you can set aside an hour to read through all your email, decide on action items, etc., then you might find that's the most effective way to do it. If you only have fifteen minutes, then you might want to slam through the emails that fit under the two minute rule and defer the rest until you have more time.
