Moving iTunes off temporarily?

Does anyone out there know if would work for me to move my iTunes Music Folder off of my computer and then reload it back on--without problems? I want to copy it onto an external hard drive temporarily but I'm nervous that trying to get it back onto my machine will create problems.

I would appreciate any input on this.
