Evernote equivalent for Mac?

No sooner had I finished singing the praises of Evernote than I decided to make the Big Switch from a PC to a Mac. Evernote doesn't have a Mac version.

While I'm willing to make the switch in part because Macs can now run most Windows software, I'd like to use native Mac applications whenever possible. Can anyone recommend a good notetaking tool for the Mac? I've heard some good things about DevonThink, but it looks awfully complex for my needs. Any suggestions?

I'm a recent Mac user, too, so I have no advice on your question. But I can tell you that I am really enjoyng usng my MacBook Pro.

I was using one of the PC office computers last evening and I was surprised with how complicated it was compared to the elegance and simplicity of my Mac.

I am also making the Mac switch when Apple releases Leopard (OSX 10.4.7??). From talking to some Mac friends it seems that I am going to go with DEVONThink (http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/devonthink/) as my project material collector.

I have watched the movies that are on the site and talked to some peeps about it, and I think that they are pretty closely related.

I guess I will not really know until I get my MacBook Pro next year.

DevonThink is overkill for what you want. There are many different programs on the mac that can fill this niche. Journler is one (free, donation requested), Voodoo Pad is another (cheap), Yojimbo is another (not as cheap, but not expensive). You might enjoy looking at

which discusses software that has some kind of outlining capabilities. All of these kinds of programs have free trials. It all depends on what features you want.

By the way, I started with a Mac laptop which was a godsend when I ruptured my Achilles tendon. As soon as I was working at my desk at work regularly again, I replaced my pc with a mac there too. I just couldn't stand Windows anymore. My network guy was telling me the other day about uninstalling Parallels on a colleague's Mac. Parallels runs Windows under OS X. The uninstall procedure for Windows under Parallels is to drag the Parallels folder to the trashcan. Heck, you can't un-install anything on native Windows without risking your entire system crashing. When I switched, I gave up one of my most often used programs. I still miss it a little, but then I remember it crashed at least once per day.:)

I avoid Macs for fear that if I tried one I would want one. So I am unfamiliar with Mac applications, but I have noticed that Marc Orchant--who is always worth listening to--has written quite favorably about a Mac program called Notetaker.

kGTD will probably be going away as soon as Omni releases their new product [OmniFocus, maybe]. They had the input from the kGTD guy so that means they probably paid him for his trouble....as well as his work.
