I received the following error after installing GTD.

"Unable to select database '' - check your db setting in config.php!'

I receive this when browsing to http://myhost/GTD/install.php I also receive it when connecting to http://myshost/GTD/

Any help is appriciated.

All the configurations look good.

What do you mean you are installing GTD?

Hmm, I'm running GTD on Suse, mysql, pmwiki, php etc. After insatlling these products i then installed GTD. The step I'm on in the installation is to go to http://myhost/GTD/install.php. This is where I receive the error, does this make sense?'

are you talking about the gtd add-in?

Maybe he means a web software package (like Tracks (http://www.rousette.org.uk/projects/))? That would make sense given the db comment.

GTD is a task management method. It is implemented by a wide range of different software programs. Which one are you attempting to install?

Without more information, we can't help you.

I'm guessing it is GTD-PHP (http://www.gtd-php.com/)

The install docs are here: http://www.gtd-php.com/Users/Install08

Did you set up your MySQL instance, create the database for the application, then edit config.php?

I don't have this installed, nor have I ever used it. But I will say that the installation instructions appear to be concise and well-written.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this. I installed a wiki that uses GTD as an add on. What is the best way to use GTD, I have a linux system with mysql and apache?

The best way to use GTD is without a computer at all. Index cards rule!

It does seem to be straight forward. I did follow the instuctions. There are very few steps, I'm sure it's something simple that I'm doing. I've been through the installation a few times with the same results as posted in my first post.

First check if MySQL is running. I bet it isn't. Its a b*tch, usually.

I need to get this back to the top. I'm still having the same problem. Any other ideas?

I decided to start over by reinstalling gtdphp. all is good now. Thanks for the help. I don't know what the resolution was other than I followed the directions.
