My Personal Issues With The GTD Process
I wish to write about my issues with GTD. Do not take this as a hit at GTD, but how my personality currently is not compatible with it.

We all know the different steps from the workflow diagram? I will just recap to be sure:

* Collect
* Process
* Organize
* Review
* Do

It is of course a bit more complex than that. Collecting for me is very easy. I have no problem whatsoever writing down my thoughts in the different buckets. Having less buckets are also important as well. My own experience tells me that I should really limit them because stuff slips through the cracks. Using text files in Dropbox and OmniFocus at the same time became a no go. I put stuff in there, but I did not do much about it afterwards as frequently as I wished.

Processing, this is where things go a bit wrong. I have no issues deleting, archiving, or incubating. Projects however are something different. I can see that something is a project. I can put it in a projects list (OmniFocus), but there is where the trouble starts.

Not every project needs a detailed outcome nor may it need the brainstorming. However some projects do and my brain is a source of mindlessness and agony. I have an analytical mind and in the GTD workflow it really goes berserk to the point of paralyzation through analyzation.

It is a conditioned behavior. It is a conditioned behavior that is really not compatible with GTD (in my case at least) because it does not say stop. It can always tear down my current plans, find something better or simply analyze it so I reject the notion of it completely.

Though that behavior is currently preventing me to fully implement the GTD system, I still have many benefits from GTD. I am also training myself to become more mindful (through meditation for instance) and other mind-calming techniques.

There is also a realization (as with the Dropbox and OmniFocus inbox) that I really do not like having many systems (paper, Windows, Mac). I have some documents in paper. I have other documents that absolutely do not need to be in paper.

It is essentially scattered. Along with an over-analyzing mind. I need to simplify. I intend to simplify. Dual systems be gone (selling PC), changing the paper system to only contain really important legal documents, etc. Always scan bills, documents and archive them. I learned that I needed to view my process, but also put it in writing.

As I mentioned I am learning about being more mindful. There are a plethora of reasons and initially I did not think it would affect anything with my GTD process. Without a clear mind few things around you are really obvious. Now that I have a calmer mind I intuitively see ways to improve my workflow. I cannot yet proclaim to have solved the projects issue, but I think in time that will also become more obvious.

I am not sure whether I am writing this to get input, or that I want to share my thoughts in hope that others can benefit from it. Hope that people find this post useful! :)

I have tried to implement GTD using Evernote. I felt that Evernote was a good tool to use for data referencing, but I have a problem when using it for administering projects and actions. My problem is with that my action lists are overpopulated with actions that are not relevant.

Example: Let's say that I have defined a project that consists of four actions A, B, C and D, where D is dependent on action C being completed, C is dependent on action B being completed, and action B is dependent on action A being completed. The only action that is relevant for me when beeing in a context where action A can get done is action A. And if I am in a context where action B can get done, but action A is not yet completed, then action B is not relevant for me.

I have considered using Evernote to collect and archive data, but writing my own software for handling projects and actions. But before I do so, I would like to hear if anybody out there have had the same challenges, and if there indeed is software out there that can handle this (I have done some searching myself).

Turn to religion... have faith in better things to come ahead.
envision another positive outcome of my career.
Always review my Horizon of Focus and say, the family is more important then my career..

Hi.

I do not have Microsoft Office, an actual Outlook program. However, I do use outlook(dot)com as my mail system, as well as the related Calendar and SkyDrive apps. Within SkyDrive the ability to creak OneNote notebooks and folders within for note taking and organizing. I downloaded the GTD & Outlook 2010 setup guide, but the Web version of outlook and corresponding apps are much different. For example, the Calendar app has a Task page, but Outlook doesn't.

Has anyone set up a GTD system mainly relying on the Outlook/Office WEB apps?
I'd love some help, ideas.

What this means is that I will be expected to work from home at least 2 days a week, and when I do come into the office, I will have to sign into a system and be given a new random desk each day.

Well, with a setup like this, keeping paper anything is next to impossible.

I need a digital tickler file, digital reference, digital everything, since I no longer will even have a file cabinet to store any paperwork.

Other than list managers, what are people using for things such as tickler files, and reference? Is there a scanner you use to scan in any real paperwork you need to maintain?

About half the content on this file will come through emails and half will be things from my own life and shop. I have a home office, desk in shop with computer, and my mobile phone. Should I make a physical tickler folder (if so how do I get all my tasks that come via email into it)? Or should I have an electronic system? I use outlook 2010 and am open to another simple software if necessary. When I do a search on this I get bogged down with all the ideas and ways people are doing it:confused: Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!
