I have tried to implement GTD using Evernote. I felt that Evernote was a good tool to use for data referencing, but I have a problem when using it for administering projects and actions. My problem is with that my action lists are overpopulated with actions that are not relevant.

Example: Let's say that I have defined a project that consists of four actions A, B, C and D, where D is dependent on action C being completed, C is dependent on action B being completed, and action B is dependent on action A being completed. The only action that is relevant for me when beeing in a context where action A can get done is action A. And if I am in a context where action B can get done, but action A is not yet completed, then action B is not relevant for me.

I have considered using Evernote to collect and archive data, but writing my own software for handling projects and actions. But before I do so, I would like to hear if anybody out there have had the same challenges, and if there indeed is software out there that can handle this (I have done some searching myself).

Hi.

I do not have Microsoft Office, an actual Outlook program. However, I do use outlook(dot)com as my mail system, as well as the related Calendar and SkyDrive apps. Within SkyDrive the ability to creak OneNote notebooks and folders within for note taking and organizing. I downloaded the GTD & Outlook 2010 setup guide, but the Web version of outlook and corresponding apps are much different. For example, the Calendar app has a Task page, but Outlook doesn't.

Has anyone set up a GTD system mainly relying on the Outlook/Office WEB apps?
I'd love some help, ideas.

What this means is that I will be expected to work from home at least 2 days a week, and when I do come into the office, I will have to sign into a system and be given a new random desk each day.

Well, with a setup like this, keeping paper anything is next to impossible.

I need a digital tickler file, digital reference, digital everything, since I no longer will even have a file cabinet to store any paperwork.

Other than list managers, what are people using for things such as tickler files, and reference? Is there a scanner you use to scan in any real paperwork you need to maintain?

My company is "going Google" so I'll be switching from Outlook to GMail. I'm very happy about this overall but I am a big fan of the Follow-Up flag in Outlook. I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find the equivalent functionality in GMail - anyone have a suggestion for this? Are "Tasks" the best way to go (haven't investigated in detail if this can do the trick yet)?

I can use the labels, but really need day-specific reminders - don't want to review all my e-mail follow-ups on a daily basis.

Thanks,

I have been using Things for a while, basically since the beta prior to the 2.0 release.
It's worked well, with fast syncing, and I had found a simple implementation that
was very vanilla and very fast. Last night I was having a problem with the clipping
feature on my Mac Book Air, and decided to re-install and restore from the cloud.
I know what to do, I've done it before, but this time... something is corrupted, and
nothing will sync to the cloud database anymore. I guess I will turn in a trouble
ticket, but I realize now I was playing with fire, and probably will not return to Things.
I will have no trouble recreating my lists, but still it's very annoying.
I know how backups work with Omnifocus and Toodledo, and I guess
I will look into backups with Reminders too. Any other thoughts?
.

I am new here. Please correct me if I breach etiquette in any way, and let me know.

Recently, I discovered Evernote (EN) in my quest to tame the paper tiger. I have been using it in conjunction with a Fuji ScanSnap for a about a month now, and I am in love with the setup. Now, it is time for me to incorporate an effective GTD system. I am almost done reading the GTD book (by DA). So, I am still exploring software alternatives for that part of the game.

I know that there are many who espouse using EN for GTD (most famously, The Secret Weapon). However, in my view (and as the makers of EN themselves admit), it is a forced fit. I guess it will work, but only after vigorously beating it into shape. These are just my impressions; I could be wrong.

So, I began to look around for GTD-specific software that will work across my desktop and laptop machines (Windows), my iPad, and my Android phone (which EN does like a champ). Wunderlist and Astrid come close . . . but they don't quite leave my fully satisfied.

Just recently, I "bought" a free copy of a to-do software, called Swift To List (through http://bitsdujour.com). I had not heard of Swift before. But, just after installing it, I am very impressed by how much customization it is capable of! I am still playing with it. So, I don't know where landmines may be hidden.

My question is, "Have any of you used this?" They have a 30-day free trial, three different versions, and features that appear to be very impressive at first glance. They say they have apps to sync with mobile devices. But, I have not explored that aspect of it yet. One problem with that software is that it is expensive! But, my GTD efforts are quite high in my priority of things right now.

Anyhow, I am not affiliated with them in any way, except as a customer. So, please do not construe my question as a disguised marketing effort. I searched for "Swift To-Do" on this Forum, and did not find anything.

If you have thoughts about this, would you share them please?

Hi all,

I have never used Omnifocus but after seeing a number of reviews/write ups on it I was just wondering is there a good substitute for Omnifocus but on a Microsoft based computer?

Kind regards,
