This is for general discussion about the GTD methodology. This Forum is open to the public.
Due the abundance of information out there about "Getting Things Done" (GTD), David & Co. has responded with a web page that provides an official definition of this term: http://www.davidco.com/what_is_gtd.php
Many have asked if they can help fight spam in this forum. In the bottom left corner of each and every post there is a little "Report Post" icon. You will need to be logged into the Forums to see this icon. It looks like this: Simply click this icon and follow the instructions to report a...

Despite setting goals in some of the key areas in my life – goals which are to the obvious benefit of my family – I have found that over the last few weekends I am totally stressed out in their company. To extend the runway metaphor, I feel like a plane trying to take off when the wheels are...
This was published in the London Times yesterday suggesting that coaching is a scam. http://tinyurl.com/bs4sb I'm not sure I agree that it is. Any thoughts from people who use coaches.
I have a serious GTD-related question for genuine born-again Christians here. If you are not a Christian or you consider yourself to be a Christian but do not have a personal relationship with Jesus, please don't answer. Thank you for your understanding. I just learned about GTD this weekend...
What does everyone do for a living? I'm a restaurant manager! Always busy! Gotta always, GET THINGS DONE!
A little while ago, I posted that I'd trimmed out a lot of the hierarchy in my GTD system. I'd realized that it was too hard to find things, and so I wasn't maintaining the system well, with predictable consequences. I've now taken an even more radical step, switching almost entirely back to...
Like many of the people who post to these kind of web lists, I've spent all this time coming up with ways to link projects to next actions, organize brainstorms of next actions so they can be turned into next action tasks, etc. Yet when I re-read GTD, I don't hear ANY of that! I'm guessing...
There has been some recent discussion in another thread (Katherine's on paper implementation of GTD) on that old chestnut of the need or otherwise of a link between action and projects in one's GTD system. You can read that discussion on...
In the last Newsletter, David Allen talks about a new service call something like GTD Connect. I see the new product page, the membership said Comming soon... Has somebody can give us a clue, I am really curious to see what it is, and David said Fall, and it is fall (yes, I am like a kid waiting...
Starfish noted that he wants to check the archives to see how to do a Weekly Review. Seems like a good excuse for me to post my process, so here it is (though this is the idealized version; I'm usually much less formal about it). 1. Skim through all lists looking for items that you've completed...
The thing that struck me as genius when I first read David Allen’s Getting Things Done was the idea of contexts. But many are realizing that Allen’s original contexts of @work, @computer, @phone, and so on, don’t make as much sense today as they did in 2002. Contexts are really outdated now . ...
I couldn't think of a succint title for my question. During the day I make a lot of notes - phone call conversations, notes on thoughts, actions, follow ups, planning etc. I don't seem to have a good system for this though and it's something I want to improve. So I am looking for feedback on...
Hi all! I'm starting down the road of adopting GTD. After listening to the audio book and doing the initial collection two weeks ago, I'm confused about the following regular scenario for me: 1. I get a thought about a project whilst I'm working on it, for other steps I need to do later....
Hi everyone! I'm trying to adopt GTD for managing my projects and tasks, and have stumbled upon a problem with contexts. If anyone would help me clear things up, it would be great. The typical scenario in GTD is that you find yourself e.g. near a telephone and start doing your @phone next...
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Powerful Lessons in Personal Change was a groundbreaker when it was first published in 1990, and it continues to be a business bestseller with more than 10 million copies sold. Stephen Covey, an internationally respected leadership authority, realizes that...
...I printed out my Next Action lists from Outlook (by context) and off I went. The thing is, I noticed a very significant increase in my productivity - somehow it was much quicker crossing off NAs as I achieved them and writing down the next NA in the appropriate context as opposed to wrestling...
I have a list of 25 next actions sorted by importance (sales related then non-sales related). I do them one by one by importance. It doesn't matter in which context it is. If I have to call my client then I have to do it and not wait for the right context to appear. I make this context :) When I...
I'm practicing GTD for several years but I don't think it's really possible to have 100% of my commitments/projects/etc. captured, processed and organized unless all I'm doing are weekly reviews non stop all the time. The problem with an incomplete system is that I don't fully trust it when it...
For the people who are in a paper based system, I would highly recommend that you look at Plannerpads spiral bound or loose leaf Organizers. They can be easily adapted to the GTD methodology. It has a top section that can be filled in with your weekly activities (Next Actions) that you will...
I am intrigued by the new system by Mark Forster called "Autofocus". I have visited his website and have noticed on occasion someone stating that they had been avid users of GTD but now they have left and are using Autofocus. I am not at all supporting someone leaving GTD, but I am curious...
I have a number of open end projects in my life. The prime example would be the fact that I maintain the website fory kids school. I keep this project open at all times, as stuff comes in my inbox, it gets dumped into that project. Is this the right way to deal with this kind of commitment?
