Due the abundance of information out there about "Getting Things Done" (GTD), David & Co. has responded with a web page that provides an official definition of this term: http://www.davidco.com/what_is_gtd.php
Many have asked if they can help fight spam in this forum. In the bottom left corner of each and every post there is a little "Report Post" icon. You will need to be logged into the Forums to see this icon. It looks like this: Simply click this icon and follow the instructions to report a...
here's a situation that i could use some advice on. i currently have a goal to become more spiritual. one of the projects that i've identified to meet this goal is to read a particular book. does anyone have a suggestion for what next actios would be? my first thought is that it would be to...
We all progress differently in implementing GTD, but I wonder if anyone else out there has noticed some of the subtleties of the 5 stages of workflow, i.e., collect, process, organize, review, do. My initial intrigue with the system was with the collection phase. It was something of a revelation...
Hi, Everyone. I've been reading some posts. I'm not quite sure this is the right forum to vent but it keeps coming to my mind to try discussing this here. My friends don't understand as their jobs are not nearly as demanding as mine. I have so many things on my plate that I don't think I...
I am wondering if anyone has any tricks for printing from this forum. I like to print topics of interest to read at a later time, but the text gets cut off. I have tried to set the margins but that doesn't help so I have been printing in landscape. Thanks Jeff
Hello All, After a recent sports injury (basketball – ruptured Achilles tendon) I am to be on crutches for six weeks. Before the injury I was becoming more and more convinced that GTD essentially needs to be anchored in the physical world. My context lists need to be an integral part of the...
Okay -- after a lot of study and reading of great posts here and looking closely at my current system of categorizing next actions by roles, I have decided to go back and try the more standard context categories again. I had a epiphany if you will on this and something I think Scott...
I have been using GTD for some time now. I have seen many variants of GTD through this forum. Perhaps this is what makes this system so usable -- one can adapt it to fit his/her lifestyle/work environment! :) Now, one problem that I STILL have problems with is categorizing all of my next...
Working as an occupational safety engineer at a public hospital in Germany, one of my job duties is advising the supervisors and managers on occupational safety and health topics and related problems. The advising is often done after we have inspected the workplace in question and written a report...
I recently read another time management book that seemed to give an interesting idea. Has anyone tried to apply a self-imposed time-duration for each next action? Like, - Find data on Y - Write outline on Y - etc...
Has anyone tried www.goalpro.com??
I've been using the GTD system for over a year now with great results. But one thing I'm uncertain about is how to efficiently keep my Next Actions list synched with my Projects list, such that each project has at least one associated next action. Since it appears that the GTD system recommends...
I prefer to use a paper notebook during the day when I am on the road, to list my things to do, because I find it quicker and handier then entering data in a computer program. However when I am at home I prefer using a computer program such as Ecco to enter my To Do lists. However this is not...
I posted this one already once, but it seems to have disappeared. While setting up GTD with Outlook the first time, I put quite few items into @Agenda and @Deferred, but would now like to move them to @Tasks. But I've not found any simple way to do that. Seems curious that I'd have to just...
My household is in a bit of chaos and I looked at the fly lady ideas and found it not quite my 'style' - I know it works well for a lot of people - however I can't stand the thought of those cards - more paper :-)) besides I am in love with my Tungsten and couldn't believe she/it couldn't solve my...
While incorporating GTD concepts into my activities I find that I do not have guidelines on managing my contexts. During my work day, my @meetings, @computer, @phone etc. all get mixed up in one big gooey @office context. Such a mix up is a fact of work life and hence the emphasis on context based...
i'm trying to get an understanding of how to define next actions and one thing that i subconciously do is try to whittle a next action down to something that will take only a couple of minutes. this causes me problems when there are tasks that are bigger than a few minutes because i have diffculty...
Kathy, I love your idea of an E tickler  , can you tell me more about it please? Do u actually have a sort of category called E ticlers, or are they just all-day events on your palm like for an action? do u type 'E tickler' before the item to know it is a reminder and not just a...
I’m trying to get a better understanding of what should be included in an active projects list versus a someday/maybe list. Would a best practice be to include all projects that you’d like to have completed in the next year on the active projects list and everything else on a someday/maybe list? ...
Why list the only next physical action? Why not list a number of action steps for the required outcome? What is the thinking behind this?
As DA reccomends I only put items that must absolutely be done on a specific date on my Calendar. I would appreciate some suggestions on how I can be best reminded of very important items that must be done in the very near future, but not date specific, so that they are not lost in my long category...
