Due the abundance of information out there about "Getting Things Done" (GTD), David & Co. has responded with a web page that provides an official definition of this term: http://www.davidco.com/what_is_gtd.php
Many have asked if they can help fight spam in this forum. In the bottom left corner of each and every post there is a little "Report Post" icon. You will need to be logged into the Forums to see this icon. It looks like this: Simply click this icon and follow the instructions to report a...
In getting up to speed on GTD using a Palm IIIxe, I notice that I can’t make shortcuts that will print @Read, @Next, etc. but only Read, Next. Does anyone have a suggestion for a way of getting the @ to print, or of substituting a character, or do people find that Read or Next will do as well as...
I've been playing with mindmaps for just over a year. Last year I downloaded the trial of mindmanager and actually used it ito facilitate brainstorming session for a client. I was paid to be there for a whole day (eight hours) but by using mind maps on the projector I finished the facilitating in 5...
Just a note to say that I'm beta testing the new GTD add-in for Mindmanager and so far I'm thrilled with it! I saw it mentioned on David's blog. http://david.davidco.com/ The folks at Gyronix have been great to communicate thoughts and suggestions to. Craig
Has anyone out there taken a look at the Haystack project at MIT? http://haystack.lcs.mit.edu/index.html It looks like a one stop shop for information gathered on your PC or Mac. Interesting, and I'm sure that there is a GTD approach to this as well....
Greetings, I post this question periodically, but so far have had very limited response. I keep posting this because I can't believe that there aren't more people like me that like to have paper to mark up in order to keep creative flow going. Does anyone using a palm device have any...
The Time Design System is designed to follow the Getting Things Done Philosophy. Even their web (www.timedesign.com) site shows how to implement GTG. • 2003 Weekly System with Forms Box, extra forms and lined paper and binder. • Leather PDA Binder – almost new. • Portable hole punch. • Laser...
I've got a Windows PC at work, a Mac Laptop at home. Has anyone built a workable solution that is "mid-tech" - electronic but not too fancy. For example, I put all my project stuff on a USB drive and transfer it between both computers. For example, word/rtf documents transfer between both...
Has anyone set up the new Entourage 2004 ("Outlook for the Mac") for the GTD paradigm. The new Projects feature is a great tool that allows you to track all tasks, emails, notes, etc. about an individual project. My main GTD question is whether one should use the Entourage-Project for a...
There's a new program for OS X that looks interesting. It's a lightweight project-management outliner, called Process. http://www.jumsoft.com/process/ It's a $25 shareware app with a 7-day free trial. I've downloaded it, but haven't done anything with it. I'm not associated with the...
I have been keeping everything (literally everything) in my head for so long I am struggling a bit just to define what my open loops are. What are some good ways to think of projects (besides multi-step tasks)? Maybe some examples would help: 1.) I realize I need to buy mouthwash. This is...
I am using Outlook 2003 SP1 and there appears to be an interesting bug in Tasks that is not present in Calendar or Contact items. In the note section of a task item, you can Insert an Object like an Excel Spreadsheet or maybe a Project file ("That would be cool for tracking next actions.") ......
I've written a review of ClipMate, an excellent tool that extends the Windows clipboard into another capture tool for my GTD workflow. The full review is on my Marc's Outlook blog. Have any of you approached the clipboard as a capture tool? Do you use a clipboard manager program? I'm...
Is anyone using a digital recorder for capture? Which one do you have, do you like it, etc? Under which circumstances do you find it useful and where do you find it awkward? thanks!
Aside from putting your CD's and music on these -- a nice enough feature -- how else can you use an MP3 player as a productivity tool for "getting things done"? Am interested in any uses or ideas. Thanks! Kevin
I noticed we have another ipod user among us. Check out this link, and look to the right of the laptop computer: http://david.davidco.com/DavidCo/davidallen.nsf/dx/my-office I wonder if he uses it just for music or for GTD related things. Myself, I find the ipod useful to take my project...
I tried to install GTD Outlook Addin and it work perfectly in outlook 2003. I am able to see GTD Icon menu. But when I install Outlook BCM I am loosing all the GTD Icon. Even I try to reinstall GTD Outlook Addin it still cause the same problem. Any body face this issues?
I have been reading GTD and reviewing everything I can on the website. Since I use Outlook 98 in conjunction with my iPAQ, I cannot use the GTD addin. For those not using the addin for Outlook , I'm curious how projects and their action items get set up. Do you create a bunch of Categories...
Got this in e-mail this morning: If you use the add-in and have been plagued by this incessant warning, get the fix.
Jim Fallows has an article in today's New York Times about personal technology, focused primarily on personal search tools. It's very comprehensive, given the length of the article, and mentions some of my favorite tools including: - Lookout (add-in for Outlook) - x1 (system-wide search with...
I need to purchase a PDA soon. I am looking at the Tungsten E and saw that you can add an application called Docs to Go (Dataviz) that allows you to store and read Word, Excel, Ppt and PDF. Does anybody have any experience with this Docs to Go? Also what are your thoughts on the Tungsten E? ...
