Group Task Management

I am looking for a Group Task Management method either using Outlook/Exchange or web based.

Like assigning tasks to other users and monitoring the task status. For example USER1 should be able to create a task to USER2 and monitor the status of the tasks until it is completed.

Also the system should send emails based on the task activities.

Any ready made solution available? or work around to configure the Outlook/Exchange?

We use taskfreak for this http://www.taskfreak.com/original. Is it easy to install on your own webserver and simple to customize. Because it is in your own server you can increase security.

But there are more webbased apps. Toodledo can do it but then everyone needs to buy a licence if I am correct.

Suggest you try OnePlace, a team based oriented web application that features communication between team members and definitely allows you to monitor progress. Developers are very open to feedback and responsive. Personal use is free; team use costs, but isn't over the top.

I tried this application, but it does not have task assignment to other staff features.
