Cross platform and JIRA integration, is there such an app?

Hi!

I've just read the GTD bible and im going to implement it into my workflow. Though im not a pen & paper guy I need some sort of software to make it happen. I do IT related work and we have lots of systems that we use, most of the data i work with is available for browsing (& copy/paste).

Im sitting on Win7 (though its not impossible to switch to mac if needed). I'm going to buy an IPad for note taking, meetings. I have already an IPhone.

A system that is widely used on work is JIRA. Almost every task is entered here, it would be a GREAT benefit if this GTD app could be sync'd with JIRA (two way). This way I could handle all task through my GTD app without too much administration.

That being said, my Inboxes would be:
- E-mail.
- JIRA.
- Meetings, phone calls.

Any ideas are welcome. I'm going crazy the way things are now, it's too much of a buzz in my head and I need a 'system' to get better focus.

Agreed. However, a quick search revealed that JIRA is a software development tracking tool. I have no knowledge of this System or how to apply GTD methodologies to it. We have lots of IT and software developers in he forums though. Good luck

I'm sorry, yes, you're both right! JIRA should be explained.. the link above is very good though, it explains the situation. Anyways..

JIRA is an advanced ticketing (bug tracking) system, its primarily used by software developing companies. Many of them use SCRUM/Agile methods for developing, and tickets/bugs is described by "user stories". These "user stories" holds task or could be broken down into sub-tasks, and perhaps linked with other dependent "user stories" (tickets/bugs). It's very advanced, and kind of hard to describe..

I'm not complaining, JIRA does what it should be doing, and does it very well! It's not a GTD system though, and I can't create my own GTD environment in this system. Therefor, i need my own system but it would be GREAT if these two systems could integrate (two way).

Do I make any sense here?

We do use JIRA at the office and the problem with GTDing using tools like that is that it's not just your system, it's everybody else's on your team / at your company. Other people can go in easily and make changes to your tasks, assign new items to you and so on which I found to be a bad practice with GTD, which in turn is mostly about your internal and external commitments that you should make up, not others.

I hear you, however, and the best integration I can imagine is to be able to import a JIRA filter (such as assigned tickets or a custom filter) as a next action list such as @work or something into your GTD software. Unfortunately I don't know of any compatible app but since JIRA has an API and now they do have the JIRA Query Language maybe there is something out there that can be connected.

Again, be careful since these tasks can be created by others and they may or may not be next actions (they are more likely "stuff" that needs clarification rather than specific next actions) unless your Product Owner and/or Scrum Team is really good in GTD.
