    Default Nortons Internet Security blocked GTDconnect podcasts

    I'm posting this to save others the frustration I've been experiencing in the past 24 hours. One of the key attractors of GTD Connect for me has been the ability to obtain podcasts of specialised content. Imagine my dismay when I tried downloading with iTunes and everything timed out. Again, and again, and again.

    The culprit has been nailed down to Norton's Internet Security 2005. For some reason, likely the way the GTD Connect podcast has been protected, NIS doesn't play nicely with iTunes. It's either blocking the downloads or taking so long that they time out. Both programs are fully updated.

    The solution has been to disable NIS for the period I'm downloading podcasts. On another PC without a firewall it worked perfectly first go.

    So if you have trouble downloading podcasts and assuming you've got the password correct, then it may be your firewall getting in the way.

    Just as an FYI - I've had no problems with Norton Antivirus 2006 or 2007.

    Many IT shops consider Norton software to be malware.

    I second that.

    The itunes thing works ok with me for Norton 2007, but Norton has stopped me being able to VPN to my server with one laptop but not the other. Go figure!!!

    I also think Norton has broken my Internet Explorer 7, but I can't prove it. It just crashes every time I try to open it.

    I am thinking of switching to McAfee on the one laptop at least to see if I have better luck!

    Thanks for that. I think this time around I'm going to give it the flick and find something else. It's worked well for many years but has recently become to obnoxious and interfereing. A firewall should sit nicely in the background and not remind me about everything I need to do (that's what GTDs for!) when it thinks I need to do it, not when I know I need to.

    IE7 is broken by itself. Use Opera or Firefox instead.

    I do. But some apps will only run with IE7 (e.g. Quickbooks) and also some websites that I use for work, still only work with IE also.
