Why not draw a sign (like a circle or quare or so) in the box for when you actually completed the item? A checkmark in the highlighted box and a circle for the date completed box. If you are cool and do the action on the right day you get a super-cool checkbox-in-a-circle-in-a-highlighted-box, wow
