Question Looking for word... Cognitive ??

    Hi!

In one of the teleseminars, probably Making change stick, David mentions a psychological term describing the imaging of what you would feel or look like if you really did make the change stick. He talks about a Time article from the fifties, as far as I can remember. The term starts with the word "cognitive", but what is the rest of the term?

Cognitive imagery or cognitive specific imagery? (what athletes use when they imagine themselves being able to do something like lifting a heavy weight etc.)

    Default Cognitive Dissonance

From memory David was talking about Cognitive Dissonance. An excerpt from Wikipedia:

"Cognitive dissonance is a psychological term describing the uncomfortable tension that may result from having two conflicting thoughts (cognition) at the same time or engaging in behavior that conflicts with one's beliefs.

In popular usage, it can be associated with the tendency for people to resist information that they don't want to think about, because if they did it would create cognitive dissonance, and perhaps require them to act in ways that depart from their comfortable habits. They usually have at least partial awareness of the information, without having moved to full acceptance of it, and are thus in a state of denial about it."

Thank you, that's the term. And I got it just in time for a presentation I'm holding in 30 minutes

    Thanks!
